Lolita's without a cause. Life without EGL

A friend of mine sent me this.
I really enjoyed watching it and really thought it was funny.
The sad part of this video is that it is probably true; most lolita's would be desperate if EGL shut down.

EGL makes buying things so much easier for lolita's and cheaper too. How else could you find all those sold-out dream dresses? Scroll through every lolita friend's sales album on facebook? EGL is definitely easier.
Even thought I've never bought something from the EGL, I am sure I will when I have the money to do so.
There are just not many ways to get your dream dresses.
Searching on Ebay doesn't make much pop up and of course there are the brand websites, but you can't buy earlier released items on there.
Well if there was no EGL anymore, we would have to make one  again. That would be the only solution to prevent lolita's from becoming so frustrated with their yard sales that they smash guitars and demolish shopping carts.

Japanese Street in Düsseldorf

Hello everyone

During my last holiday I visited the Japanese street in Düsseldorf. It was very cool to see all of those stores and all those Asian people shopping there gave me the feeling of being very far away from home. There even were Japanese newspapers in the stores for free. I didn't bring one with me, as I can't read it. :(
My favorite store was the Japanese warehouse.
They had a lot of magazines and manga's, those lunchboxes the Japanese make food art in, Japanese photo-booths and some food. I tried sea weed chips and they were delicious.
There also was a supermarket and a bakery, bubble tea and sushi take-away restaurants.
In the Japanese bookstore they even had the Gothic & Lolita Bible of this summer! I was so excited that I bought it immediately.
One store even sold furniture. It was incredibly expensive though, but fun to look at.
They even had a traveling agency for the Japanese people living in Düsseldorf. I was very amused to see they had trips to the Netherlands, with those cliche photo's of tulips, windmills and wooden shoes.  (Not what most of the Netherlands looks like at all)

When you want to check it out yourself, the street is called 'Immermannstraße'. When you come out of the 'Hauptbahnhof' (central train station) , turn to the right and walk until you see the tourist info. The tourist info is on the corner of a street, turn left there. You know when you're right when you see a bubbletea at your left side.
It is quite a long street and it doesn't have Japanese stores only. I guess there were about 10 stores that were worth visiting.  (when I don't count the traveling agencies, the overload of take-aways  and the business hotel) When you go there, you should visit the city center too. The stores are very expensive (think of Prada and Chanel), but the architecture is great.

Inspirational quotes

I have been reading Edgar Allan Poe lately and I love the way he writes. It is so fair-spoken and it sounds so beautiful. As I read I wrote some quotes down to inspire me later. These are the ones definitely worth sharing.

They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who only dream by night.

There are chords in the hearts of the most reckless which cannot be touched without emotion

The first quote inspires me to dream and be creative. It makes me think of impossible things that I can use in creative ways, like in my art. It also makes me hope thinking outside of the box will help me sometime to become more aware of what is going on around me, to look through the facades of others and to understand them.
The second quote makes me remember what I forget sometimes: even the people who seem like they never care have emotions. You just have to dig deeper to get to them.
I have been bullied my entire life and sometimes it seemed like the bullies were just monsters without any feelings. But I know now that they just lock their feelings away. Quotes like these make me cope in a better way.

As my blog is fairly new, I have no idea if someone reads this.
If you do, please share your inspirational quotes in the comments.

Lots of love, Tamara

Introducing myself

Hello everyone,

I am a starting lolita from the Netherlands and in my blog I will focus both on daily life and lolita.
My daily wear is mostly gothic, but I am getting more and more into lolita since a while. I saw a lolita on local tv and started google-ing.
After I bought my first dress I fell in love with it. The darkness, how feminine it is and how it makes me feel pretty.
The first time I went to a meeting of the Dutch community was very scary. I absolutely didn't know what to expect and if they would appreciate total strangers. They were very nice and I ended up having a very good time.
Now I am planning to go to my second meeting and I think there will be more.
